"Up until five years ago, I’ve always had relaxers. And it was always damaged. I didn’t feel beautiful with my natural hair, but I didn’t feel good with my hair constantly falling out, breaking off. And I was just in a hard place where I just didn’t really feel beautiful either way. My aunt, she’s always been natural and she helped me actually with learning how to do wash and go’s, detangling my hair, growing out my natural hair, she’d braid my hair for me once every other month to help me grow out my hair. She just really fostered in me confidence and loving myself the way I was. I just didn’t really have any family members who had natural hair. Always told to straighten your hair, have relaxers, everybody had weaves. So, to have her there to help me in a time when I didn’t really know how to make myself feel beautiful meant a lot to me. And I’m natural now because of her."
